Veils
Veils is an ongoing series of works exploring my relationship to the representation of male bodies as well as my relationship to the materiality of drawing itself.
With this collection of work, I’m specifically interested in examining how the dynamics of the viewer’s position modulate the viewing experience within the gallery space.
Utilizing textured translucent paper creates a continuous flux between clarity and obscurity as the viewer moves around the drawing. In effect, by physically engaging not only with the drawing but with the gallery space itself, the viewer changes their relationship to the position of the light, and this shifts how much of the drawing is “seen.”
This play between the seen and unseen is at the core of my interest in the male body and how it is represented.
